The Animeros today released their irresistible new single, "Descarga Royal," a feel-good dancefloor jam that frequently serves as the opener to their live sets, previewing their new album, ¡Qué Bárbaro!, produced by Dan Auerbach. The track arrives alongside a Tim Hardiman-directed video filmed at the band's recent Chicago show supporting The Black Keys at The Vic, featuring vibrant visuals that capture their love for the Windy City. "'Descarga Royal' is a cover of a song by classic Peruvian band Los Royals de Pucallpa," the band’s Nick Tozzo explains. "Like all 'descargas,' this is an open jam that allowed The Animeros to explore some psychedelic solos and push the energy to the limit."
¡Qué Bárbaro! is a kaleidoscopic fusion of now and then, honoring the rich cultural heritage the band is carrying but also guiding these rhythms on new adventures. These are sounds that have defined Latin music for decades, yet remain current and vibrant today. For The Animeros–whose name is inspired by Colombian shamans who would usher lost souls to their peace–it’s about using the music in their DNA and thinking about how they can make people move, while saying something new with it. That, in the end, is how they know the music is working. "That’s our metric," Tozzo concludes. "If they’re dancing, we know we got them."
